Wrap My Love Around You
Track 12 | Mother Medicine (7:53)
After a particularly potent women’s circle, I found myself singing this song to myself as I sat under the moon. I wept and sang to all the parts of myself that craved to feel my very own love. After singing to myself, I wanted to send my love to all those in my life that I loved most, and so the song evolved to have several parts.
Wrap My Love Around You Lyrics
written by Sara Emmitt
I wrap my love around you (x4)
There’s a sweetness in the sorrows
in the pain and the secrets
In this body there are stories
of anguish and sickness
And the truth is
that these sweet spaces
they just want to be held
So I give you all my heart now
It’s time at last you were felt
(And) I wrap my love around you (x4)
To my sister
my greatest teacher
you are so much stronger
than you comprehend
So light your fires
and call your forces
I am by your side
till the end
(And) I wrap my love around you (x4)
I stare into the darkness
and within it lies
my greatest teacher
the keeper of my light
So bless this suit of bones
filled with thought, flesh and decay
that someday with dissolve
just to recreate again
We are not the doers
we are containers of light
filling up our bellies
and emptying our minds
So bring me to my wisdom
let these words be seeds of truth
As I pull myself in closely
I allow the birth of my wounds
I allow the birth of my wounds
To my sweet love
how I miss you
When will you find me again?
And for my father
with strength like water
oh how you’ve taught me to be loved
And to my mother
giving life and thunder
There’s a fierceness in the folds
of your womb
So birth your power
we’ve arrived at the hour
for your tears and your cries
to be heard
I wrap my love around you (x4)
Bring me to the waters
the place from which I came
As I drink upon the nectar
I remember who I am
Oh bring me to my wisdom
let these words be seeds of truth
As I pull myself in closely
I allow the birth of my wounds
I allow the birth of my wounds
For my children
the future wise ones
know that you are always held
And if you’re wounded
and you're hurting
let this love be your salve
I wrap my love around you (x4)
