Seeds
Track 4 | Mother Medicine (5:01)
Years ago I stumbled upon an old Mexican saying, “They tried to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds.” This phrase sprouted up again for me when the protests broke out against the North Dakota pipeline going in, and I saw all of us who were fighting for our clean waters and protection of the earth had another trick up our sleeves. We are the seeds. This piece was written as somewhat of a political protest song, in honor of all of those standing for peace and the health of our earth.
Seeds Lyrics
written by Sara Emmitt
Quisieron enterarrnos pero se les olvido
que somos semillas
We are the seeds
and we have everything we need
water, earth and love
and the great light from above
we will not fight for peace
we will grow with grace and ease
and suddenly we are a forest
we are a home
so when they lay down their weapons
they have a beautiful place to go
They tried to bury us
they tried to push us down
they tried to steal our voices
and turn our water brown
But when the buried us
they put us in the ground
where there’s fertile soil
and life abound
Because we are the seeds
and we have everything we need
water, earth and love
and the great light from above
we will not fight for peace
we will grow with grace and ease
and suddenly we are a forest
we are a home
so when they lay down their weapons
they have a beautiful place to go
Danos fuerza y gracia
luz y paciencia
ya sabemos la verdad
esta vida es sagrada
y llena del amor
madre tierra, creador
da a luz al día
cuando la gente despierta
a la divinidad a dentro
con mar y luz y viento
semillas creciendo
semillas creciendo
A la luz (x4)
Because we are the seeds
and we have everything we need
water, earth and love
and the great light from above
we will not fight for peace
we will grow with grace and ease
and suddenly we are a forest
we are a home
so when they lay down their weapons
so when we lay down our weapons
we have a beautiful place to go
