Mama
Track 5 | Mother Medicine (5:47)
My homage to Mother India. This song was born in my first few months of living in India and I was deeply intimated by the intensity of the culture and land. As I grew to understand Her as a motherland, I slowly nestled into Her loving embrace and allowed Her to take me on the most incredible journey. This song is a small piece of my gratitude and experience of Her. Over the years it has gained many new meanings, as Mama takes many forms in my life.
Mama Lyrics
written by Sara Emmitt
A cacophony of light
and the sounds endlessly breaking
like waves against the edges of the earth
She breathes into the night
deep and hot like wind rising
off of fire
A bellow of the flames
And I will never be the same again
Oh mama you show me the way
back in
When the pains go up in flames
with old karmas, sticky samskaras
Those ashes nourish the soil
from which grow
the flowers of our dharmas
Well we can’t go back to the time before
we burnt our wounds to the ground
For all that exists now is in this moment
So rise to meet yourself
take up your space
love your body
There is grace in letting go
having faith in the next heart beat
Don’t hold your breath
show yourself respect
and stay humble
Don’t hold your breath
show yourself respect
and stay humble
And I will never be the same again
Oh mama you show me the way
back in
Shri Ma jai Ma jai jai Ma…
And I will never be the same again
Oh mama you show me the way
back in
Om shanti shanti shanti
